i had a laminectomy performed 5 weeks ago for a ruptured disk to stop pain running down my leg and so far so good.....how long does it usually take to safely be able to carry lets say 50 lbs without damaging what the dr. fixed.....i guess i am asking how long does it take to heal completely from the surgery?.....thanks:angel:

Kymer, your doctor will let you know when it is okay to return to normal activities; still, 50 pounRAB is a lot of weight so I hope you know how to practice good lifting techniques. Keep in mind that that particular disc is now weakened and is at risk for rupture, so lifting heavy weights isn't a good idea. If that is part of your job, be sure to wear a back brace to help support your lower back.

Hope this is helpful.

Personally, I would never lift 50 lbs. after having spinal surgery. Once your back is weakened you will find that it is easy to set it off again. I don't want to sound negative but please be very careful or that nerve is going to be inflammed and irritated again. Definitely consult your doctor and please remeraber that we are not doctors just other spinneys like you. Good luck and I pray that you continue to have relief from your surgery. That is EXCELLENT!!
