Question about Omnia and Data plan

Hey there,
I'm wanting to get an Omnia,
and I know this phone requires a data plan.
But if I were to order the phone from eBay, and activate it by calling *228,
Would it still let me activate it without a data plan?
 
*228 wouldn't even let you activate the phone unless you're already on the plan that it requires (for example, it would let you activate from a Storm to an Omnia but it wouldn't let you activate from a Dare to an Omnia). It would advise you to contact Customer Service.
 
I have gotten VZW to remove data on Motorola Q's and also BlackBerry Storm's..... just tell them that you can't have it for security reasons... worked for me :)
