question about my 1997 dodge dakota heating core?

ok i want to BACK FLUSH the core....i disconnected the hoses going INTO the cab of the truck,......and not from like the engine or anything....just from the hoses going into the cab...is this right.? i couldnt get one of (the truck was a little warm when i did this...and now irs dark so i will do it in the morning ) but i got one hose off....and it had black water and "gunk" in it....cuzz i have no heat....and i just wanted to make sure i disconnected it from the right end....the "end" of the hose that is going INTO the cab...its under the hood stuff...but its going into the cab part...just wanna make sure this is right...is it? thanks alot...God Bless-----Nick
P.S the place that i am gettin the directions says u "disconnect" it from the "firewall" if this helps...

Pull off both hoses, and wash it both ways. Doesn't really matter.

If you leave one of the hoses on, you are just going to move that gunk into the engine.

Once you have it flowing clear water,start thinking about flushing the engine. That gunk did not come from the heater core!

And watch the pressure as you wash it out, don't get nuts. Heater cores can be expensive.
