Should new learners of physics worry about knowing where the formula came from ?

For example: V = d/t
Should the student worry about the meaning of this formula ?
Like V = d/t because velocity is the distance traveled in every time unit. So we divide the distance traveled by the time so that we know the distance traveled within every single time unit. Should they learn how the formula was put together before they proceed to other topics ?
