i just purchased a 2009 dodge challenger, r/t. i was interested in purchasing a k&n cold air intake kit. i know their site says that increases 21hp, in ideal conditions. obviously im not going to get that much. i also plan on purchasing a catback exhaust. my question is as ive read on some other sites that the CAI systems require tuning software. On the k&n site it doesn't mention anything about tuning software. is that something im going to need? or is it i'm going to need it to get the most out of the CAI? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

you don't "need" to install a tune in order to use the CAI, however you will get the most gain if you can find a tuner/CAI package where the tuner has a program made specifically for that CAI. I don't know for sure if any company offers this yet, but i know the mustang wasnt out yet very long when they came out with package for it.

You're wasting your money, and you could also void the factory warranty on the engine and exhaust. The changes you're talking about are things people do to a junk car, the kind that needs a little help. A brand new Challenger R/T doesn't need any modification.
