Question about height/weight requirments???...read on....?

Ok so i was looking out of curiosity at min and max height and weight requirments for the military in diffirent countries,im from the uk and from what i read they accept people from 5'4'' to 6'4'' and from 9stone 5lbs(60kg/131lbs to about 15 and a half stone(90kg/217lbs) My question is this, does that mean for example a man of 5'6'' and 55kg would not be accepted yet they would except a woman of 5'4'' who weighs 200lbs???or not accept a woman of 5'2'' 125lbs but would except a man of 5'5 who weighs 215lbs??? That seems crazy to me,do they take in to account the Bmi???i have a cousin who was in the army for a couple of years shes of average height,im not sure of her weight but id say she was obese,how can someone like that be of more use than say a person of 5'5'' 120lbs or a person of 6'5'' 195lbs???
