Question about going to store to upgrade phone (not my name)

I was wondering, am I able to go to the store (say on the Iphone launch day) and upgrade my phone number to the Iphone4. I am on a family plan but it isnt under my name. Can i just bring my phone in and money/credit card and upgrade it? what do i need to do? Thanks

You have to be on the authorized user list to sign a new contract. The contract obligates the account holder and not necessarily the user of the phone.
