Question about equipment for my yamaha v-star 650/?

I bought a used 2006 Yamaha v-star classic. The dealership is getting me a new service manuel, but I am curious about what I need to get for my bike, i.e. what is the best oil to use, tools i will need in case I have to make roadside repairs, fix-a-flat.
 
The oil is easy, spend more money, get better oil.

If you have tubed tires, roadside repair is damn near impossible.

If you have tubeless, you get those rubber plugs and a small bicycle pump and you are all set.
