Question about difference in S603 and S603FP1...if there is one....

I thought that S60 3rd Ed. WAS Feature Pack 1... which would imply that OSS v2.0 Browser WAS included.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in 1) S60 3rd Edition and 2) S60 3rd Edition FP1 ??? Also, which browser is on each one?

I'll be receiving my new (used) E61 here in a couple of days in the mail and would like to know what browser it will come with. I'm assuming the first version of Nokia's MiniMap Browser (not OSS v2.0).

Could someone enlighten me?

S60v3 currently has 3 feature packs announced. Here's the skinny -

FP0 - (for lack of better terminology) - The current S60v3 devices
FP1 - new ones with "FP1" include N95, E65, E61i, N93i (I think), E90, 6290, 6110
FP2 - only announced a few weeks ago, no actual devices announced.

FP0 has the new OSS browser, but it's separate from the Services browser. I guess you could call it OSS v1.0. Coming from your 6682, you'll still be pleased, I'm sure.

Not a problem, man. I myself came from the 6682 to the N80, then to the N73. It's great. Lots of little improvements here and there, but still the same greatness. FP1, IMO, isn't much, now that FP2 will be out by the end of the year. We shall see. I think you'll like your E61, though.

I think you're confused. The browser on the E61, N73, E50, etc is the OSS V1.0 and it's the latest browser. The newer browser isn't out yet in any devices and it's the OSS V2.0.

I don't believe the E65 is FP1 either. The first device that will be FP1 is the N95.

There it says that neither the E61i or the E65 run the V3 FP1 platform.

Well that makes me feel a little better ...

I've been researching which S60 phone to get for several weeks now. You see, I took a detour from Symbian for a little jaunt there because I went through a phase where I was around computers 24/7 w/ my job and thought I didnt need email or any advanced features on a phone. I bought the RAZR v3i (I know I know, hold the flames). Well, me working in IT hasn't changed but my thinking has gone back to normal. I almost went with a Nokia E65 for its size, microsd, D-Pad (as opposed to joystick) slider format and large screen My reasons to go with that phone over the E61 were that "maybe" it had a newer processor or "maybe" it used the newer version of S60v3. Hearing that it doesn't... I stand very happy with my choice of the E61. IMAP-IDLE Push and I will become good friends very soon.

I shall have it, according to UPS Tracking, Tuesday morning (my day off )

I cannnnnottttt WAIT to get back to symbian.....

thats correct although it's kind of a crock IMO. it reduces or enlarges the font size but it doesnt allow you to display more text in doing so.

I've used many qwerty keyboard phones of late and the best for me is still the E61. You'll love the phone and the browser is fantastic. I am getting another E65 this monday though for my weekend phone.

Have you had success using the landscape application posted here on hofo? Or have you tried it? I only ask as it wouldnt work on my E50. I think the E65 would be a pretty sweet phone if you could use it in landscape for web browsing. I'm thinking about getting one until the N95 is released. Looks way too sexy next to some of the other Eseries phones....super slim for a slider.

I've never used a QWERTY phone before...ever. I type light LIGHTNING fast on predictive text and have never even wanted to go qwerty, but I DO want a landscape display. I'll learn QWERTY quickly enough, I'm sure. I needed something that would let me be on IM 24/7, have push email (IMAP) and be able to browse internet and my email box effectively. I also want to be able to view pictures and watch movies and have a great calendar, also landscape. I could really care less about a camera. If only it was 3G, it would basically be perfect for what I need.

I actually only recently found out about that program and since it's not the easiest thing to install I haven't done so yet. I did see someone here show a pic of it working on the E65 so as soon as I get my E65 again I'll try it out.

The E61 is one of the few qwerty phones that really works. T9 could not keep up with that thing. It's got about a 5 minute learning curve, then your off and running.

Yeah...it's got to be signed first. Someone signed mine but it still wouldnt work. Installed it with no issues but still not working....anyway, that's great news about the E65 supporting it...thanks!

After I play with it for a day or so, I'll be changing its keypad from UK/Spanish to UK Only, changing Product Code to EURO SiLVER A and then updating its firmware to the most recent.

I look forward to it... I really do. Life is good.

wow this thread took off in the last hour or so.

I stand corrected as for the devices with the different FPs. That's kinda stupid that neither the E61i or the E65, both announced AFTER the N95 and N76, are FP1.

I have the RotateMe app on my N73 and it works freakin awesome, I love it.
