Question about cooking black-eyed peas?

Before I cook black eye peas I cook the meat I am using for seasoning first. Then I parboil the dry peas (bring them to a boil) with a little baking soda in them to extract some of the gas from the peas.

Next I pour them into a strainer and run cold, cold water over them to remove the baking soda. then I dump them in the crock pot with the meat. (in this case smoked turkey tails - YUM! YUM!)

HOWEVER... I forgot to strain the baking soda out and instead dumped them into crock pot.

What's going to happen? will they be gaseous? I won't add any salt as they already have baking soda (sodium right?)

taste them after a bit....if they are too salty from baking soda add a little sugar....i wouldnt worry about the gaseous thing. i dont think that little baking soda will hurt you. also if you put a whole raw potato in there it will draw salt out. taste test in a bit to see which u should do. not dangerous. but they are going to be gassy just because they are beans. no biggie.
