I have a 1999 S10 Blazer. I can drive to the next town (10 miles) and by the time I'm heading back, it kicks really hard. Its like the gears don't want to switch. Is that my Transmission? Also, Every once in a while my RPM's will shoot up almost to the red line, then the truck speeds up 10-15 miles with out me doing anything. It has also shut off twice when I was driving, I didn't turn the keys off or anything, it just died and I pulled over, shut it off, waited about 5 minutes and it cranked right up. What the heck's wrong with my car??? It also has 174,00 miles on it. PLEASE let me know if you know anything about it!!!!!!!

It needs a rest & a qualifyed auto doctor to give it the works.
Your tranny sounds like is slipping & the engine isn't getting fuel. Try changing the fuel filter first & in the meantime, keep your foot out of it till thats addressed.

If your RPMS randomly shoot up and the car accelerates quicker without your influence, that problably means the transmission jump down to a lower gear. I am guess this is a manual transmission?

The cutting off could be due to the trans disengaging and without enough gas the engine will stall.
