dealership, can you help if you know cars? Is it physically possible for technician or someone else at the dealership to do something with cv boot on the car?
Here is my story: brought a Land Cruiser for oil change and multi point inspection, brake service to toyota. had a whole bunch of coupons that they were not happy about. the guy who arranged the service was kind of slicky and not very friendly. I was joking saying that we should have given coupons after the service, so they would not do a bad job.
the car was not ready that evening, they wanted to keep it overnight.
i pick up next morning, there is a noice coming out of the right side.
brought it back for them to look at it. the same guy tells us, ooops, you have to change a "cv boot" it's been leaking grease and now it's making the noise. well , my question is, could they do something for the grease to leak out. the left side seems fine and looks different, looks dry and it's 2004 land cruiser, don't those last and last and last without major break down. also he said if cv boot replacement will not get rid of the noise, the whole axle might need to be replaced or worked on, i did not quite understand. everything was so fishy, they guy was smiling when we came back and technician agreed that there was no noise when we brought in the car, but now there is.
shouldn't they be responsible for fixing it, since the noise started after their service /work was done? is it physically possible to do something to make grease come out of the cv boot?

well the boots will crack after normal wear and tear on them. if the boot has to be replaced your probrably better off just replacing the half shaft. if the boot was deteriated when you brought it to them they shoulda noticed it. i doubt they will fix it for free but might give you a discount. just to be safe take it to a different shop to have it checked out they should look at it for around 20 dollars good luck :0)

well if they had poke a hole in boot it would take a few weeks or month before it spun all the grease out and unlikely they could have done much to cv joint to make it go bad over nite most likey its been leaking for months you wouldnt see it if you wasnt looking for it .. an dit would be smarter to replace axle than replace just the boot two reasons you dont know how long its been leaking an dhow much dirt has got inside and since its ticking most likey its bad if you dont trust the dealership why not go to any shop repair cost just has good or better and for half the cost try a little test cal dealership ask them how much to replace cv joint on your land cruiser then call three shops and ask same thing really if you cars out of warranty your better off going to a shop who works on cars every day than a dealership who works on cars once a week dealership are in more of a business to sell cars where shops are in business to repair them... my wife replace her cv joint not to long ago in our drive way or she kind of did i had to help her some

yes they can be cut with a knife or any other sharp object and it makes them appear to be bad,i had this happen to a good customer of mine a while back and they wasn't real happy about it either, the shop they had been to, to change the oil cut the boot and caused it to loose a cv joint,so yes it can be done, proving it though is another thing all together and almost impossible to do,good luck.
