Question about Cadilacs and Dinosaurs

As far as I can tell, the series is still owned by Nelvana, which produced it with Marvel Comics back when it first aired. I did ask Mark Schultz about this when I saw him at a New York Comic-Con 2006, and he said there was no interest at the time of releasing the series on DVD. Considering how the DVD market has cratered since then, I would expect that interest in putting the show out on DVD would have dropped even further.

But you never know. If someone like Shout! Factory were convinced that they could sell enough of them to make acquiring the license worthwhile, they might do it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd love to see it happen, but it was a really minor TV show that almost nobody remembers today.

I guess that never happened, but yeah counting that not even the comic exists today chances for a little known tv show to be released on DVD, hopefully itunes is an option after all I watched it on demand about a year ago. We need another "dinosaur boom" like we had in the early 90s with Jurassic Park for anything to be considered and it could happen with a new JP Trilogy in the works and a Dinosaurs TV Show by Steven Spielberg, kids love Dinosaurs which is a good thing. Don't know much about cars but don't they have to license the Cadillac name? maybe that is also a factor.

I found the original show to be pretty decent, while it has flaws, most of them seem to stem from it being an early 90s cartoon. A new version could be much better, I'd also love a more "mature" take on it like in the comics or even a live-action show or movie.

Well the game is better well known but its not like its gotten or will be getting any re-releases. In fact its still pretty obscure only a few gamers remember it. Most remember the other beat-em ups that used the same engine first and with more love.

There is also the obscure C&D Sega CD game which even though its a bad game features another animated interpretation of the characters.

Well, I guess you're in luck, as there'll be a JP4 coming sometime in the next little while.

Yeah, But still. I really want to see the series on Youtube. I mean Nelvana's not going to take it down. Because I don't even think they remember it either.

I am quite certain that you mean that you would like to watch it legally on YouTube or some other video sharing service if or when Nelvana licenses the show or puts it up themselves. Otherwise you would be advocating copyright infringement and we don't and can't condone such things here on rabroad.

That is what you meant. Right?

There were a few official VHS tapes released a while ago of the series, and I'm pretty sure you can still find them on eBay if you look. The set was definitely not complete, but until Nelvana releases it officially, that's probably the easiest legal way to watch the show.

I was on a C&D kick a while ago, but watching one of them after winning one was one of those "this show was not as cool as I thought it was" moments. Some episodes were definitely better than others, but it definitely kiddie-fied a lot of the stuff from the comic a lot more than it needed to. I'd still like to see a complete series, though, on general principle if nothing else. It's a show with classic 50's cars, dinosaurs, and babes and beefcake aplenty. What's not to like? But apparently, I am in the minority.

The toys were wicked awesome, though. I have a whole boxload of them somewhere (also from eBay), and I think I rememer Schultz saying somewhere that the royalties on those sustained him for a whole lot longer than he thought they would.

Yes, they would. Interestingly enough, both my C&D trade paperbacks (yes, I'm old) and my VHS tape say that "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" is a trademark of the General Motors Company and used under license. Technically, GM owns "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs," which I find fascinating and bizarrely funny. However, they would need to license the name again to do a new DVD set, and I'm not sure if I think they'd be cheap about that because they kind of need the money or if they'd charge through the nose for it because, well, they kind of need the money.

In any event, they could get around that restriction for a new show by going back to the "Xenozoic Tales" name, which I suspect is at least part of the reason why Dark Horse used it for their recent reprint TPBs. I guess calling him "Cadillac Jack Tenrec" and showing the cars falls under fair use, since they don't show any licensing info in the copyright indicia.

Yes, but All I want to see is episode 13.

That whole GM Owns this show is kinda similar to the fact that GM had a hand in the Transformers Live action movies.
