Question about Beavis And Butt-Head

On the TV show, B&B wore T-shirts with logos of rock bands AC/DC [Butt-Head] and Metallica [Beavis], but on licensed products such as comic books they wore "Skull" [Butt-Head] and "Death Rock" [Beavis]. Did it have to do with licensing issues? Particularly the bands' logos?

I can imagine Beavis and Butt-head being retro to some people. Hey, it's been well over a decade since they made their last appearance.

I miss those two.

Well, technically, their last appearance was the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, but I know what you mean. Still, I always thought the Retro forum was reserved for the golden age of American animation, specifically the stuff that airs on Boomerang (classic Warner Bros., MGM, Hanna-Barbera, and so on) - this sort of thread seems like it'd be better suited to the General Discussion forum.

but this brings up the question of when a cartoon is considered "retro"

retro or not, beavis and butt-head rules!! definitely near the top of my favorite cartoons list, if not right at the top:cool::cool::cool:

Yeah, that's what I'm guessing. Once B&B became huge, MTV and Mike Judge probably didn't want to look like they were selling advertising space for those particular bands (or their record labels), so they later changed the insignias on their shirts to generic metal terms like 'Death Rock' and 'Skull', possibly as a precaution against a possible AC/DC or Metallica lawsuit.

It's a shame that Mike bailed on the sequel. I'd of loved to of seen more of the two, but they'd have to ignore McVicker's death in "Beavis & Butthead Are Dead", but even then, continuity and Beavis & Butthead don't match.

The problem is that AC/DC and Metallica are hard artists to liscense in general. That the show was able to get the bands to allow their logos on the guy's shirts is a miracle alone. Asking for the two to have their logos in every piece of merchandise is probably pushing it.

Fun fact: In one of the early episodes, Beavis had Slayer on his shirt instead of Metallica, and Stewart also had a Poison shirt on a few times instead of Winger, but apparantely Slayer and Poison don't seem to care.

Didn't he only have a Poison t-shirt in just one episode? It was in that "It's a Miserable Life" episode where Butt-head was being shown how things would be better without him around. Stewart was shown to be a more assertive person due to Butt-head's absence. So that's the only time I could see him wearing a Poison t-shirt.
