question about AIM

Wiser with age

I just ordered a blackberry pearl 8100 with the unlimited data plan and 1000 texts. I'm new to both the blackberry and T-mobile. I've been looking at countless forums for days and have been receiving mixed messages. I cannot figure out if AIM uses the texts or is free if one has the data plan. I know about the third party IM clients which are either monthly subscriptions or a one time fee. I want to know about downloading the actual AIM client, and installing it on my blackberry. Would that be data usage, or text usage?

You can download the actual aim client on the 8100 then it will use data, but if you use the supplied one, the oz messenger, it uses texts. Like jonny said, the new pearl and the curve have the real aim messenger, no more oz messenger, and its data. So if you download the real aim messengr you will be alright.

That aim client is clunky imho. Several of the ones that are third party apps are hands down better. I use JiveTalk (multiplaform) www.beejive.com and have no issues with it. Jivetalk uses data.

You probably want to call CC... i can't find the info anywhere and no longer have my 8100, i do know that the native platform for the 8120 uses data.

I asked the T-Mobile rep the same thing before I upgraded to my BB 8320, I have the unlim msng for Family Plans.

I am using the JiveTalk client right now, the free trial its 30 days. I like it much better than the AIM that comes installed on my BB 8320.

You can purchase the license for JiveTalk if you like in the end, I know I will be doing so plus the UI is much smoother, hope this helps.
