It is perfectly safe to keep the battery inside of your cell phone after something like that happens, it is simply there to determine whether you can get a phone replacement or not if you have insurance on your phone. If it happens to be red or pink you cannot, water damage voids the warranty, but if your phone works fine, stick with it.
