question about a 2002 ford taurus?

okayy i am looking to buy a 2002 ford taurus. my dad and i got done test driving it and it did very good. but when we got out there was a spill on the ground. some of the antifreeze fluid spilled out and it was bubbling over. but the lid was not twisted all the way i guess and the engine wasnt overheated and the owner said that that has never happened to him before? is this a common thing for tauruses and if not is it something i should worry about? or is it just that the lid may not have been securly tightened.

Refill it with water, then screw down the cam and drive it again.
It could be that the cap was left loose on porpoise. Or it could be to keep it from over heating.
It could be a sign of a bad head gasket, or a bad thermostat and it is overheating.
Check the oil for water , if there is oil in the water or water in the oil, walk away. It means a sign of trouble.
 
why would it have been loose? that is a closed system, it will not operate without getting hot open, almost no car cooling system will.so someone added coolant.you can check it by looking at the resevoir, you dont have to open it. so if your like me, youd think its a fan/radiator/headgasket proble,.it could be a tiny leak lowering the fluid, but someone loosened the cap, old schoolers think if you leave the cap loose, it helps a blown head or radiator problem.never done that before, buy it and he punches you in the arm and yells black jack no trade back.
