Question about 3D movies

I'll use Avatar as an example

With Avatar being the highest grossing film of all time with something like $1.8 worldwide (i don't know how much just a rough guess) I was just wondering is the additional
 
Not so, because not every cinema that shows Avatar shows it in 3D, simply because not every cinema has the equipment to be able to do so. So the number of screens that Avatar will play on will be less than your average 2D blockbuster.

I would say that the higher cost weighed against the lower number of screens probably makes it about even.
 
Surely that's like saying that it's unfair that a certain song got to number one in the chart because it had an unfair advantage over number 2, as they released it as an MP3 also, where, the song at number 2 was only available on CD?

Bottom line is it made more money than anyone else.
