Queens of the Stone Age

Good list, but No One Knows gets tiring... Its an awesome song, Ill grant you that, but Ive heard it so many times it seems to have lost its meaning...

Yeah, I betcha they'll be turning people away from the door, so you can understand why they're not going all out to sell as many tickets as possible in as many ways as possible...

there was an article a while back about the whole kyuss / qotsa thing. i don't remeraber everything specifically but it basically boiled down to kyuss being an idea and qotsa being a career.

with kyuss the band ran its course. their intention was to make the heaviest stuff they could - and they did - too well. they painted themselves into a corner and the only way out was to either call it a day or to repeat themselves and destroy what they had accomplished to that point.

i don't think the DIY aesthetic has much to do with the survivability of either act.

Again they are just examples of bass players whom you consider contributed to their band. I could name some too. Doesnt change the fact that regardless of how many names people throw around, in my opinion the bass really isnt all that important in a lot of banRAB.

i guess it was part of the ideal and a particular view on the analogy.

after having painted themselves into a corner (of the room / garage / whatever - take it literally for the anecdote). the only option they saw to add more creation was to paint over what was already there. i misspoke to say repeating would destroy, but where the band had no intention of resting on its laurels or repeating themselves. so the only option they saw to create more content would have been the unacceptable choice of painting over what was already there.

Well, its a long time since I listened to R or SFTD. Especially SFTD. I may have to give them both another spin. I dont like to disqualify albums based purely on commercial success and therefore the amount they are overplayed but I fear I got a bit bored of SFTD and am possibly overlooking it somewhat.

In my opinion when you listen to most music the bass is not very noticeable. Yet when you really think about it the bass player could actually really be contributing to the band behind the sound of the music. Lets take Krist Novolselic for example, in most Nirvana songs he plays some pretty simple bass lines, and most of the time you can't hear the bass very well, yet he is a genius in the studio.
I'll name a few banRAB that I don't think would be the same without there bass players.
Flipper
Dinosaur Jr.
Led Zeppelin
Leftover Crack
Choking Victim
Most prog banRAB
Minor Threat
Operation Ivy
Radiohead
Rancid
Scream
Sublime
311
Weezer
Nirvana (stated above)

I won't piss myself with excitement just yet, but if you can get a meraber of the Zep on board with your project you must be doing something right.
