Queens of the Stone Age

That was uncalled fo...:(

But seriously, I'd rate this gig right behind The White Stripes...plus, these guys have a much better relationship with the audience.

I've got lullabies to paralyze, and I think it's great. probably not as heavy as their other albums but it's got quite a few stand out tracks on it... check out tracks 4,5,6,8,10,12,14.
but it's a cool album to just let play through.

by the way, it's their first album i'm least impressed by, only got about four good songs on it, rated R was the album I that got me into them and then I got their back catalogue and the next two albums after that songs for the deaf and lullabies to paralyze. all three over all are amazing albums but I just have favorite songs rather than favorite albums.

so apparently Alain Johannes is playing along with the group. why he never got mentionned before that first show is rather boggling. it's not like he's a no name (although criminally underrated)

awesome or not the advanced hype made it sound like this new group was going to be a return to old school power trio rock and instead it's just another group that went ahead and bit off more in the studio than it could chew on stage.

i'll still be keeping an ear open but at this point i'm starting to expect the stoner rock version of zwan.

I think he's a better bass player than the one they replaced him with, but I think Eva Vulgaris was better than Lullabies and probably Rated R too.

I like Songs for the deaf the most, but Lullabies is pretty close...it's got a shitload of catchy tunes on it. I'm not diggin' Era Vulgaris too much...apart from the singles.

On a bright note, I'm seeing them tonight!!!...:yeah:

Says the guy who listens to neither genre to know what banRAB in said genres are unfathomably awful. It isn't like I listen to Mortician.
No they're not.

The song that got me into them was the bonus/throwaway track from Songs For The Deaf, "Mosquito Song". A mate had it playing in his car and said he didn't know who it was. I thought it was awful, but it ended up being one of those songs that grows on you.

QOTSA are clever but I feel they've lost their mojo over the last couple of albums. I defintely think Oliveri took a bit of their bang when he left for the spastic Mondo.G.

Stoner rock is such a grand genre, I absolutely fucking love it. Even the relatively poor banRAB that are out there usually have something going for them like a fun riff and a bit of get up and go. It's one of those genres that I don't think can really do any wrong.

jackhammer, I'd suggest looking into some Fu Manchu if I were you. In particular their King Of The Road album, absolute masterpiece. Makes me want to buy an old Camaro and drive on, and on, and on, and on....

And try Superjudge by Monster Magnet, jesus mate, talk about gorgeous sun glazed, dazed and persuasively trippy psyche jams. Dave Wyndorf is great on the ol' vocals and lyrics on this one too. These guys fed their music the drugs so you wouldn't have to do the consuming.

saw them at wireless. The funny thing is the crowd only got into the set when they started playing material from Rated R and SFTD. The first half was one of the most boring sets ive ever heard, i really dont like Era Vulgaris at all. Homme is one good frontman though.

I didn't say that I thought drummers don't make a difference. I also don't think that about bass players either.

I could also list a few banRAB whom I think would suffer without their bass players or their drummers. On the other hand I could make a much longer list of banRAB whose bass players and drummers are either barely used, don't contribute much to the sound of the band they are in or are just pretty rubbish. In any of those cases there would be a good chance that should the band replace either meraber of the band then the average person on the street wouldn't even notice or it wouldn't seriously harm or alter their output.

I think drummers and bass players CAN be an important part of any band, but also that more often than not (note i didnt say ALL of the time) they are the most expendable merabers of a band and are probably also the 2 merabers of a band to be most commonly replaced. It's much easier for a band to change bass player and continue than it is for them continue with a completely different singer.

This bass discussion is kinda boring, but whatever. My two cents: I liked Nick, but I've seen the band before and after his departure and my favourite shows have been AFTER.
