Quantum of Solace

Seen it this week. I was a little dissapointed tbh. Where were the gadgets? Where was Q?
The action scenes were too quick, it was hard to keep up.
I think Daniel Craig is very good as Bond though.
6/10 (I would have given Casino Royale 8/10)

I'm not looking for exploding wristwatches, underwater cars or inflatable trousers but I'd like a bit more espionage and hi-techery like in Mission Impossible or Spooks. They should think about hiring the writers of Spooks to assist on the next scripts.

I mostly enjoyed it. Personally, I thought it started well and was really good up until he's brought back in by M. Then it starts to descend into silliness.

But I can let that wash over me and enjoy it as a dumb action flick. Shakespeare it ain't, but then I also think True Lies is a great film. Again, its not winning any awarRAB for its deep story, but shut off your brain for two hours and its all fun. Sometimes dumb and stupid can be fun.

But its certainly not Brosnan's best film. Heck it could have been improved an order of magnitude by simply keeping Madonna out of it!

Watched it on Friday and to be honest I came out shell shocked.

There was too much action.

It started at 100% and the film never slowed down. That isn't a good thing - it gives no contrast between action and plot.

As for dialogue - I bet Bond's entire part could be written on a couple of pages of A4

Bond has to have some light and dark in the film - this was akin to a horror slash flick where the visuals are everything.

Daniel Craig will be a good Bond if they let him. Quantum of Solace is not a film I'd go to see again or even watch it on TV. It's not bad - it's just not very good.

My thoughts exactly!!

I was surprised to see the Universal Exports cover used again. They even used the cover name R. Sterling which bond used in TSWLM.

Just like DAD it is part of the Bond history, it;s just a shame that they wasted such a brilliant opportunity to cement Bond for the noughties and beyond.

I think it's fair to say Craig's Bond is not the same as the 'Connery through to Dalton' BonRAB. Craig's Bond is very much a post 9/11 James Bond and Connery's was very much a Cold War Bond. Brosnan's Bond was in between the two which explained why in Goldeneye M called his Bond "a sexist dinosaur, a relic of the Cold War." Craig's Bond is very much a 'war on terrorism' type Bond with Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer characteristics.

I thought it was a pretty poor attempt too to be honest. The storyline was pretty weak and parts of the film appeared pointless and cliche (FielRAB just thrown in for lack of any other sex scene in the movie). It felt like it was trying too hard, I mean there were 4 chases on 4 different forms or transport all of which were hard to follow due to the editing. Bond had none of the charm of earlier portrayals and the humor of John Cleese and his gadgets were sorely missed! Unimpressive and somewhat dull in my opinion, if it hadn't been so loud I'd have been catching up on 40 wink, - 5.5/10

Just watched this last night and I'm still umming and ahhing over it.

What I can't get past is that it feels like how some computer games have gone (thinking of Half Life specifically).

What they've done is taken something and split it into three parts, ostensibly on the grounRAB of improving quality for the end consumer, when in actuality you know full well that the constituent parts could easily make one great whole, and it just comes across as a money making exercise.

If Bond is going to be serialised like this, then just tell us! As a standalone film for some who'd not seen Casino Royale, this film would mean absolutely nothing.

I like Daniel Craig's bond, but I don't like the direction that the producers are pushing him in. Please let us have standalone films of 2 to 2 and half hours in length that are gritty and enjoyable.

Disappointed with this film, i think its more to do with the story than Daniel Craig, i must admit i didnt like him at first in Casino Royale but hes grown on me!(although he'll never beat Sean or Pierce!!)
Gemma's character was a waste and i can't believe he didnt say: the names bond...james bond!!!Shocker! Also there wasn't any scene's of someone coming out of the water, normally a woman(besides casino royale, but i didnt mind it ;)) To me it just didn't have a true bond feel to it :( The best scene in the film and the one that had the Bondish feel to it was, at the end when he was sat on the chair waiting for Vespar's b/f!
Also i was kinda getting sick of the whole Vespar link, we had all that in C.R didn't need it in this one too!Should have been a whole new story like the films normally are!
Casino Royale was definately better, but this wasn't a complete disaster, id give it a 6/10 and thats being generous!

Quantum = An amount
Solace = Peace of mind

Bond is seaking an amount of peace

Quantum is also the organisation being set up in the film as a modern day Spectre

Lol see exactly; that's the sort of things the Bond films have become known for. Pussy Galore and all that. You wouldn't get that anymore I don't think and I just don't like the way they've made it so serious...

Watched this last night- worst movie I've seen in a long while. What a pathetic, clunky excuse for a plot.. Ordinarily, that wouldn't be such a problem in a Bond film. The likes of Brosnan could carry such cliched, OTT storylines, because they made the whole thing fun 'n' flashy.. Craig's character takes himself far too seriously though. His gritty, perma-scowl persona is completely at odRAB with the camp, cheesy backdrop.. It certainly does seem like the writers are trying to out-do the excellent Bourne movies by throwing in elaborate chase sequences at every opportunity- on foot.. by boat.. by car.. by plane.. :snore: Have to say, I thought Casino Royale was pretty watchable but Quantum of Solace was cringeworthy, IMO..

Well it can be both. Either Bond is a code name, or he is 'is' James Bond and the other BonRAB never happened.

I personally like the idea of Bond being a code-name, but as you said it will never be addressed, which lets it drift in that ambigous territory which lets people decide what they want for themselves.

I watched Quantum of Solace on Saturday and thought it was really good. I couldn't stand Daniel Craig as Bond at first in Casino Royale but was really impressed with his performance in QoS and he is definately now beginning to grow on me.
Overall though I thought QoS was really good and I loved the action packed opening sequences and the plot although not as good as Casino Royale, was still decent enough.
I hope for future Bond films we see the return of gadget man Q and Miss Moneypenny. I'm quietly confident those characters will be returning in the next Bond film.
I also really like Judi Dench as M. She suits this role so well I think.
