I thought Q of S had some very good bits of humour in it. With the new BonRAB its illustrating how good Tim Daltons outings where. The steelyness mixed with wit was really good & i think with Daniel Craig they have someone who like Dalton can mix the two very well.

All we need to return is John Barrys music & Maurice Binders titles & then they will have the complete package.

Thought it was decent enough. Would like to see longer versions of some scenes (e.g. the car chase at the beginning) and I agree with a couple other minor criticisims mentioned.

I think CR and QOS are unBond like because they're not really meant to be Bond as we know him. CR took Bond as a plain block of stone and then carved out the basic shape of Bond (keeping "The name's..." and the 007 theme until the end are examples). QOS added the finishing touches. I'd expect the following films to be much more like the Bond we know.

If you're looking for subtexts, how about:

In CR Bond learnt to love, and to not trust anyone.
In QoS he learnt to forgive, and to control himself.

Together they make Bond Bond.
 
Whilst genuinely I enjoyed it, after the phenomenal Casino Royal, QoS was something of a disappointment. I love the serious, intelligent, campless DC version of Bond, and Casino Royale was hanRAB down film of 2006 for me. But QoS needed quite a lot less bang crash, and a lot more quiet character moments.

Yeah but haven't the Bond films always been about silly little bits of humour like that? They've always been quite tongue in cheek. I mean look at George Lazenby's first line as Bond:

"This never happened to the other fella!" :D
 
Well, I'm old enough to have seen all the BonRAB on the big screen since the mid-Sixties. I thought Casino Royale was the best since On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969 and never thought they'd manage to make one as good again. I was wrong; I thought Quantum of Solace was stunning. And definitely the best-directed of the lot. As for Craig, he has now eclipsed all BonRAB who've gone before him, Connery included. Fabulous, fabulous movie.
 
I've jsut finished watching it and I loved it, a worthy succesor ro Casino.

As for it not being a Bond film, good. The Bond formula was tired and needed a shot in the arm before it died. The reboot should be judged on it's own merits, not on how similar it is to a cliche ridden formula.
 
I'm afraid that QoS bored the socks off of me - couldn't wait for it to end and found it interminably dull. Not a patch on Casino Royale.
 
If they'd going with Bond as a code name, I'd rather they used it to differentiate Bond's 7 and onwarRAB from Daniel Craig rather than to differentiate Craig from the previous 4. By that I mean that Casino Royale be treated as the start and the previous 5 BonRAB where part of a different universe. It's probable that the first 4 BonRAB where supposed to be treated as the same character (certainly the first 3).

Although ultimately it's going to be irrelevant as it will never be addressed in the films.
 
Oh you'll get no arguements from me about that DIRE song. Easily the worst in the franchise's history. It was just awful!

I loved Brosnan's films, too and I wasn't actually criticising things like still using the gun barrel. Only that it really shouldn't affect one's enjoyment of the film if it is there or not. But based on your last post, it seems it didn't, so that's all good :D

As for 24, I think they kinda dropped the whole real-time element without telling anyone. It was really solid in the first couple of seasons, but it seems to have been drifting off ever since. Either that or CTU has some sort of secret, super-fast cars that travel on very empty roaRAB around LA. ;) (EDIT: I simply mean the real-time element hasn't been so solid, not the whole series. I still enjoy it, even if its breaking its own rules a little)
 
I'm sorry, but that is possibly the most ludicrous statement ever made by a 'true Bond fan'

Timothy Dalton was by far the worst Bond ever.

He had the charisma of a dead slug and the acting ability of Paul Shane out of Hi de Hi
 
It was very difficult to work out where the adverts stopped and the film began.
Aston Martin, Ford (2 models), Coke Zero, Sony, Omega Watches, Range Rover, Virgin.

I believe that the movies downfall started with the theme tune, and because they didn't use the gunsight and blood opening until the end credits.

So many action scenes badly interwoven into a poor script and plot; no better really than an episode of Police Camera Action. If you walked in half way through the film you would be convinced it was a very poor Jason Bourne movie (just realised that Jason and James have the same initials - JB)

Why no reference to anything Bond?

Why not have made this into a 20 minute tag onto the end of Casino Royale, it was just a revenge movie, which was done better in Kill Bill 1 & 2.

It was not good, but as a die hard Bond fan I have to see it, accept it and add it to the collection of DVD's whenit is released.
 
Not sure I agree. I think, after the exceptional CR, expectations were disproportionately high. Perhaps people were a bit harsh on QoS because of the incredibly high standard set by CR? CR was film of the year for me, and I felt QoS - whilst not bad - failed to live up to that film. In that respect , it was a disappointment.
 
I did like the way they put the location on the screen though - different fonts for different places. It made me wonder why they couldn't improve the awful yellow subtitles.
