Quantum of Solace

i watched this film yesterday and i really got lost with what was actually going on.

I just dont get it.

He is a good bond but the story isnt like a bond film if anyone understanRAB what i mean.

late edit: didnt see the end of the post above,so its not just me then

I'm sort of agreeing with you hear. QoS had the air of franchise building (if CR established the new style Bond, QoS is establishing the new major villians), not only for Craig's Bond but for the Bond who comes next. I'm actually hoping there isn't a Blofeld style figure behind all this, or if they do he's someone who Quantum can replace.

The next film IMO should be more traditional than QoS, I can see a new Operation Bedlam being in place for the start of the next film. Also there was a lot more humour in QoS than people realise, it was just very dry

Quantum of Solace worst bond film ever!
no gadgets , story line weak ,
silly plots in the movie which dont make since,
bond dose to much running around and dont use his head much,
no shaken martini.

I'm just a traditionalist when it comes to Bond. I really don't see where the franchise had a problem at all. I loved the Brosnan films. He seemed to have a little bit of each of the former Bond's about him. He was both witty and tough when he needed to be.

The films up to Bond 20 were very much different to any other series and the elements I described where very much in keeping with each other.

It's like if you took away real-time from 24, the show wouldn't be 24 anymore.

By the way I don't knock Casino Royale at all. I thought it was a great movie and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. The stunts were incredible and everyone around me gazed in wonder as Bond jumped across sky high heights and ran across tightropes.

Daniel Craig's Bond does the wisecracks and the humour too. There wasn't a lot of room for that in Solace because of Vesper but it goes with the character. A lot of that humour was transferred into the Q scenes too.

From what I've heard, more of the elements of the Bond films will be coming back which I think is great news. It remains to be seen whether it means "opening gun barrel", Q or Moneypenny or both will return but it'll be fun to find out.

I think it's fair to say that Solace was good yarn, a nice bit of escapism. The biggest disappointment about the film for me was the title song. I need to give it a few more listens but I wasn't impressed and that means the soundtrack too. Not good.

Loved this film. Personally, I prefer Casino Royale, though. That's not rreally a knock to QoS, its just that CR was a near perfect action flick.

I don't know why people keep saying Craig's Bond isn't funny. He's no wink-wink nudge-nudge Roger Moore, but instead he has a dry wit about him. I loved his "I'd rather stay in a morgue" bit when FielRAB tried to get him to stay in the grotty hotel, followed by the "we're teachers on sabatacle and we've just won the lottery." I think his type of humour and charm are perfect fro the Bond role.

It did have quite a "Bourne" feel to it; moreso than even CR did. However, I think they can get away with it, because they've actually developed the character of Bond to be his own man. The scenes with Mathis and the scene at the very end in Russia were quality character stuff, as was much of the scenes with Camille. This Bond is no longer a 2-dimensional lady-shagger. You feel for him and what he has to go through in the world in which he lives.

Looking forward to the next film. There's still much to learn about this mysterious organsiation and I can't wait to see what they pull our for Craig's third outing as 007.

If anyone's not seen it, or some of you want to re-live the agony, there's a decent looking DVD screener now available from the usual sources.

I would go to the cinema and see it, but it's too short a film and too expensive a day out.

Very dissapointed. The shots were so cut cut cut that i couldn't even work out what the hell was going on in the opening chase.

To me this wasn't Bond at all. If i wanted to watch a Bourne film, i'd watch a Bourne film!!!

That would just be silly though - he already has a code number, I will be annoyed if they go on to suggest that his whole identity is fake too. I don't there's ever previously been a suggestion that his name is a code (though I seem to recall that Fleming picked it to be as nondescript as possible). Obviously M is a code name as Fleming gives (the first) M's real name at one point as well.

yes it was a great film ,& i knew what to expect in the way they have redesigned it. however i do preference the return of the traditional gadgets & miss moneypenny in the next film ,if craig can warrent it

Not sure it's entirely the internet - QoS hit 68% fresh from professional reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to a stellar 94% for Casino Royale. There was obviously issues there compared to its predecessor.

Well i'm really glad there's someone else out there who agrees with my assessment. I do agree that CS and QofS have ripped the soul out of James Bond as we have come to know him but we have to live with it.

James Bond films have lived through 4 decades and have always changed in each decade. Indeed each individual film stanRAB out from the rest.

I just think with the Daniel Craig reboot they could have kept the same roughness and grittier edge they've taken and kept on the likes of Q and MoneyPenny.

I read a RAB article in which Craig called for the return of Q but not so much with the humour and the exploding cars and ejector seats that Q would clearly have been proud of. I disagree. Even Dalton's Bond, who was rough and tough and serious, perhaps even more like Fleming's Bond found time for light relief, taking the mickey out of Q's gadgets that have always saved Bond's life. Q even said himself "If it hadn't been for Q branch you'd have been dead long ago"

Daniel Craig can do the humour. I think instead of concentrating his wit on Vesper, Q should be suffering it instead.

Casino Royale felt more like a Bond film all around. With Casino Royale I think we've almost started kind of like a new series of a TV show. Telling the James Bond story in a new way and as long as it breaks recorRAB as QoS did, it's here to stay.

I think I must be the only person who's favourite Bond films are The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. I used loved the style and the cheese and Pierce Brosnan as Bond. There was nothing too heavy about them and they were classic Bond films. Admittedly they needed to reign it back in a bit after Die Another Day but they could easily have done that without going down this root...

Its a good film but when i watched it was like i could have been watching any other film. Its just not bond anymore, seriously the wiittyness and humour bond had has gone, no Q or moneypenny (wtf is that about?!) for the 2nd film running bond has rebelled against M...starting to get annoying now. Give us some gadgets!! Good film yeah but Its just not Bond anymore, it used to be fun to watch but now i'm not too sure. I actually worry about the future of bond!.

And RAB did anyone else find it hard to see the what was happening in the action scenes? like the car chase...my eyes couldnt take it and im only young ha.
