Quagmire should have gotten his own show instead of Cleveland

Yeah, as was said before: the only way to make a Quagmire spin-off work would be to make him less of a one-note character. In fleshing him out further, however, you'd have to rewrite certain aspects of him, which would ruin the whole point.

I mean, do we really need a more multi-dimensional, sympathetic Quagmire? Occasional glimpses into his life and family are fine, but I'd hate to see the character watered down to make him more viable a lead. And of course, if you keep him exactly the same, you limit the the types of plots you can put him in.

As was said, Cleveland was such a blank slate before that there was no way to 'ruin' his character, and one could argue that he's become a much stronger character over the course of his own show. He 'needed' the spin-off much more than Quagmire did, as now he's more than just the token black friend in Peter's group and he's certainly not 'Black Peter'. I like how the main premise of his show is mainly how he tries to earn the respect of his new family, and how the step siblings slowly grow closer.
