Quagmire should have gotten his own show instead of Cleveland

Anybody else feel this way? I think Quagmire's own show would have been 1000 times funnier. Not sure how much shelf life it'd have, but it'd definitely be more entertaining than The Cleveland Show, which has been a major disappointment IMO. What do y'all think?

I think the shows getting better.
But I personally thought a Stewie and Brian spin off would be best.
People say there the whole show so what's the point?? Still there adventures are fun to watch the most :)

No, I don't think it work out well.
Quagmire's character would have to be almost drastically changed.

This was even officially stated. Just because Quagmire was a funnier character while Cleveland was on Family Guy doesn't mean his own spin-off would have worked out.

We've been through this already. While Quagmire's good for gags, he's only best in small amounts. Hearing nothing but sex and giggity jokes would get old after the first few episodes.

Funnier maybe, but when you get right on down to it, Quagmire is a terrible character to revolve a whole show around. Seth knew this when he decided to make the spinoff around Cleveland, hence the reason why Cleveland got his own show and not Quagmire.

The irony is that Quagmire has been given more development in the latest season, with the revelation of his hatred of Brian or his deaf brother and sister with an abusive husband.

Even so it wouldn't have worked. I prefer Quagmire being on Family Guy over moving into another show anyway.

I'd say MacFarlane chose Cleveland because he didn't want to mess with his successful "doltish, chubby father, shrill wife, 2.5 kids & some random animal that talks" formula by centering a new series around a bachelor.

Respectfully, I have to disagree. Spinning Quagmire off onto his own series would be a terrible idea. Quagmire is a supporting player who's best taken in small doses. As a horny sex hound, Quagmire is neither compelling nor likable enough to carry an entire series. If Quagmire were thrust into the center, his character would have to be radically revised, resulting in a completely different Quagmire than the one that fans love, making the move counter-productive.

...And that's precisely why there would be no point in doing that whatsoever. Stewie and Brian don't need their own show because they already have one. Family Guy can survive without Cleveland, but not without Stewie and Brian.

Also, DarthGonzo is correct. Seth MacFarlane didn't choose Cleveland for the spinoff at all. Mike Henry (the voice of Cleveland) did.

Mike Henry and some other guy... I keep on forgetting his name.
All Seth did was bring the idea to the FOX execs.

Seth MacFarlane did come up with Family Guy and American Dad but he did not come up with The Cleveland Show.

Quagmire is a one note character, which was lampshaded when he visited the Cleveland show. Cleveland was more or less a blank slate.

The Cleveland Show wasn't Seth's "idea" but he loved it when Henry pitched it to him and then co-signed it. So I put it on Seth.

The show has had it's moments (last night's episode wasn't bad) but overall it's been a dud. The only reason I watched it is because there was no NBA playoff game or wrestling PPV at the time. Maybe Quagmire's show wouldn't have had much shelf life, but it would have been a lot funnier and entertaining. Even if it failed, they could always bring him back to Family Guy. Which I predict will happen to Cleveland and his fam if the Cleveland Show gets the axe.

They should make a spinoff about Herbert. No, wait, the greased-up deaf guy! Yeah, those have all the potential to be completely not one-note that a Quagmire show does.:) Seriously, I agree that either it becomes a fuzzy, unrecognizable Quagmire or it's unwatchable in its repetitiveness.

As much as i like Quagmire, i have to agree that he's only good in small doses. Sure, he's been given some depth, but not enough to warrant his own show. Then again, Johnny Bravo is kinda like Quagmire in that he's always hitting on women, but he's not as slick, and probably not as lucky as Quagmire. Plus, Johnny would never trick women into having a drink laced with something to knock them out unconscious. :p

Cleveland, i could understand. He's sort of the well meaning 'voice of reason', yet he has very low self esteem about himself, and has to overcome his own flaws in oder to get things resolved by the end of the episode.

Since Quagmire is pretty much 99% sex jokes, I'm sure it would get tiresome. And since Seth does family shows, I just can't imagine Quagmire having a family. Well, maybe someone he got pregnant showed up one day with his child... But still.

Cleveland is an all-around better character.

We actually had an episode like that. Some woman that Quagmire got pregnant left him with her kid. It was kind of funny how the baby interfered with Quagmire's sex life, but seeing that on a constant basis would be tiresome.

I do agree that Cleveland is a better character as he really wasn't focused on in FG. He's a clean slate.
