Putin says U.S. is "parasite" on global economy
Just because we have the largest GDP in the world doesn't mean Putin is wrong. We also have a very high debt relative to our GDP, and massive deficits adding to it each year, and our GDP growth and overall economy is extremely stagnant. State, local, and consumer debt is staggering as well.
If you had a friend who had an extremely high income, but was deep in debt and maintained an extravagant lifestyle only by borrowing 40% of everything he spent each month, would you consider him to be in great financial shape?
Putin is right.
It doesn't matter that the US has the largest economy in the world, since our debt nearly equals our vaunted GDP, and we borrow 40 cents for every dollar that we spend these days.
Putin stated that the US is living beyond its means, and is financing its extravagant unsustainable lifestyle by borrowing from other countries. How can you argue with him?
The US has accumulated massive debt and is running massive deficits to finance its high standard of living by borrowing from other countries. That's the only way we can afford to have generous social programs, low tax rates, and the worlRAB most potent military.
"Parasite" is probably the wrong word, but its not too far off.
