Purchased car privately with dangerous problem.?

I recently purchased a car privately. The day after I brought it to be inspected. The mechanic told me the car could not pass inspection because the fuel filler pipe at the filler neck along with its connection to the body of the car was severely corroded. So badly that the fuel filler pipe
was completely loose and is flopping around and dangling where it attaches to the body of the car. Also a fuel cap can't be put on because of this corrosion.Unfortunately, I never thought to open the fuel door to inspect when I looked at the car.Who woulda ever thunk it. Do I have any recourse toward the person who sold me this car with such a dangerous problem..
