puppy whining in crate?

I have had my pupy for almost 3 weeks now, and he came from an outside home so was not crate trained. He is almost 3 months old, lab mix. just wondering when his whining in the crate stage will end, and some things i can do to help it speed along, as its REALLY irritating lol. He is crated at night, and he whines for about 20 minutes til he falls asleep. In the morning before i go to work and i put him back in his crate, he whines again and i just leave. usually i can hear him outside barking.

normally how long do puppy's whine like this in the cage, or how long til they are used to the crate?
here is the schedule. from 10pm to about 615 am he is in his crate. then again from about 715 am til 330pm, when i come home from work. then he is back in his crate from 4 to 530, and he is outta his crate til bedtime. thats thru the week, on the weekend he is only in his crate at night, but if i stay the night at a friends i take him and he sleeps with me. he has a sheet over his crate that i pull over the front when i put him in. usually when he whines i ignore it cuz i heard thats what your supposed to do, but sometimes i cant take it and ill yell No from the bedroom, but he'll start back up. If i keep yelling no, he eventually stops.

You need to be consistent with what time you put him in his crate and how long he is in there for. After about 5 days he should know the routine and will stop whining.

1. Cover the crate with a blanket

2. When the whining begins very slowly creep up on the crate.

3. Say "enough" in a deep growly voice.

4. When the whining resumed shake the crate. I am not saying to rock it or anything like that, just tremble the crate a little bit and say "enough" in the low growly voice again.

Repeat step 4 as needed.

The whining will stop. Right now nothing happens to make him think there's anything wrong with it.

Some never get used to it. But if you put your dog's crate in your room at nite so he can see you and knows you are there, it is less likely that he will continue this. Its hard on a dog to be crated all nite and then all day. Maybe you can just contain him to just one room with gates during the day so he can run around alittle and spread out. The poor dog is bored to death probably and will develop behavior issues if left crated all day and nite. Maybe doggie day care is available so that your dog will have alife and get tired out and sleep at nite.

well, you DEFINITELY dont want to let him out or he will know to keep barking and whining if he wants attention.. also, dont even acknowledge that hes barking..only do this at night you should let him out during the day.
