wondering if anybody has ran into this yet? playing around with my phone last night drunk, and this what i ended up with. 2 calls to customer service and no luck with them(i only had a brief time to talk on break) so i thought i would check out here? if not its off to the tmobile store after work.

thanks,
jimbo

You have to call your provider to get it unlocked, there's no other way. It was easy to do when I worked with Cingular, not sure why they haven't helped you yet. It occurs when you enter the incorrect SIM Pin 3 or more times (some are set to 10).

they been very helpful, i just haven't had enough time to fix the problem over the phone. we are having trouble entering the code on the actual phone.

I PUK locked my phone when setting up security for the 1st time. There was no defauly SIM Pin code on the box, so locked it up.

There is NO WAY TO PUK UNLOCK the G1, ie, it doesn't let you type the unlock code in. All it lets you do is do an emergancy call.

After 30 mins on the phone to T-Mobile (UK) customer services, they came up with a brin wave of Unlocking the SIM in ANOTHER PHONE. Did this, and it was fine.

However, it's a bit stupid that you can't (at least I couldn't find a way) of putting in the PUK unlock code into the G1 itself.

Okay, here's how it worked for me (T-Mobile G1 in UK).

Get your PUK code from your provider.

Get the screen where you are told the PUK needs to be entered and using the keyboard type:

**05***#

That will simultaneously unlock the phone and set up the PIN code.

I just did it to my phone last night. I thought I knew the default pin and tried to change it, oops!

I just went on T-Mobile's site and did web chat with customer care and they were able to give me my PUK as well as change my SIM Card pin. *phew*

Just wanted to say thank you for the help. Was an idiot tonight and PUK locked my phone, so call AT&T and they give me the code. I try to just input it and nothing...First try with this and everything is great now, as long as you read the whole thread. The info about entering it into the emergency dialer would have been something to put in the original entry. Ah well...It happens, thanks again tho. For those reading, it works. Follow the directions exactly in the emergency dialer screen.

Well I just locked my phone lastnight I'm on T-Mobile Online Help. I'm being assisted. I will never ever touch the sim card lock thing again ...

the "**5* etc." work arround works.
I have a Europe bought HTC hero, rooted, running Android 2.2. Now I moved to the US and am using T-Mobile.

This code also allows you to set a PIN and therefore to PIN-lock your phone, even if that's not foreseen by the carrier, as it is the case with T-Mobile in the US. The peeps at the store told me, that they could not generate a PIN-Code for me. Now I did it myself!

Thanks a lot, was very helpful.
