Has anyone been sent to a psychologist for back pain? It has been recommended to me and I'm not sure why.

I have and it was the best thing I ever did. Did it help with my pain...kind of. But it did help with my head :) Seriously, I was having a real hard time emotionally dealing with my pain. And what I found was that when I was feeling better emotionally, I was better able to deal with my pain. He also helped me deal with having go take daily medications.

Best of luck to you.

Me too, As the above post said, it didn't really help with the pain, but chronic pain was/ is causing a lot of depression and anxiety. She helped me with that. She also helped me with my eating because I wasn't eating enough. I had no appetite associated with the pain. We also did some meditation/ relaxation techniques so I could learn to do them at home when the pain got really bad.

A lot of pain management clinics will have you see one as a part of their program, so it is really not uncommon. I wasn't with a PM clinic at the time but my GP referred me to one. He recognized what I was going through and thought it would help.

I lost my insurance so had to stop going to her, and have since regained insurance but haven't started back up. I should though.
