PSWii60 owners. What does it for you? Graphics or Gameplay?

Is it me or is it weird that people automatically assume Wii = great gameplay?

There have been two decades worth of great gameplay from Nintendo and others using the traditionial button mashing controllers. It seems to me that Nintendo has to prove that its gameplay is worthwhile more than Sony or Microsoft.

Only graphics ofcourse. Gameplay's so overrated. It's so much more fun to just pop in a game with awesome graphics and no gameplay and just stare at the images on the screen.

Not gonna lie, i'm a graphics whore. That being said, gameplay is very important to me as well. Terrible graphics can deter from a game's fun factor in some cases, IMO.

I guess a little bit of both FTW. I think I can appreciate a game with great visuals a little more though.

Why not discuss the failings of both, instead? Since this is audio-visual world, of course better graphics are paramount. But if all one does is transverse an endless number of identical dungeons, no matter how beautiful it is, one is likely to become bored after awhile. The question therefore has to be asked: what constitutes great graphics or great game-play? One would therefore have to compile a list of what constitutes bad graphics and bad game-play. To me, what brings it together is camera controll, whether one has any control over it or if the camera is a hinderance.

I say that it isn't just graphics or game-play, it's whether or not one has fun, whether the game keeps one enthralled, whether one has a sense of accomplishment after beating a game. Does the game have a buffo ending? When you beat a game, do you see all the credits like you would after seeing a great movie? Like a great movie which you want to keep to see over and over again, will you ever play the game again and again?

Don't tell me what you like, tell me what you hate.

I just want to play good games. Gears of War was a good fucking game. At the same time, Zelda is a good game. It may not have huge bumpmapping, pixelshaders and huge textures that the other systems have, but the game does have some nice visuals. It's not like it's pong or anything.

No one system has a monopoly on "fun", they all have (or will have *cough* PS3 *cough*) something to offer.

Play Dark Clouds 2 (PS2) then go play Z:TP. DC2 has beautiful mechanics, the transitions are flawless. Take for example opening a door - you have to get to just the right spot, you shift left then right until you're right in front of the door knob before the door opens in Z:TP. In DC2 you approach a door, press a button, and there is no "skip" in animation as you go through the door. I can't tell you how many times I have "bumped" into a door expecting it to open in Z:TP. Compare the camera control in DC2 to Z:TP; DC2 is almost flawless, you can swing the camera without getting it hung up in tight corners.

Like I said, it's the little things...

nintendo is being smart with its new way of gameplay since it knows it cannot compete with the other systems graphics it has decided to open up games for new audiences by its innovative gameplay.

I agree with that, sometimes I wish I could just push a button. However, pointing at shit on the screen with the controller while shooting stuff with a bow is pretty goddamn good.

You could always rent Z:TP for the GC and see that while it is easier to swing the sword, there's other mechanics which were tweaked that don't work as well as on the Wii version (like the swinging monkeys).

Any game that has a sniper scope should work really well with the Wii, as would any flying jet game that has radar lock on. I doubt that a pistol would work unless they increased the sensitivity because the cursor moves to slowly or off the screen. You would think that a game like Time Crisis would work or shooting at pop up aliens. Which should mean that they'll put a level in some game where you visit an arcade and fill the balloons up with water or visit the shooting arcade.
