PS3 to sell 121 million units by 2012

XBox360 and PS3 offer nothing other than minimal graphic improvements. Buying anything newer than a PS2 or XBOX is a waste of money.

For me, while the xbox 360 is very close to the ps3 power wise, Sony's inclusion of the BR drive will be the winner. Even if HD-DVD wins, it will let developers use the ps3's power to its full extent. I just don't think DVD will be big enough for next gen titles.

Plus, the ps3 won't be getting superseded before 2012... Microsoft see consoles like white goods, they'll just peice one together quickly with off the shelf components when the 360 is getting slightly old.

the ps3 will sell, but not more than the 360. I dont even need to argue this, I'm 100% sure this is fact, and you can quote this years from now and I guarantee itll be on point.

Merrill Lynch last week said just the opposite. They are predicting that 360 will end up winning the next gen war, with a 50% marketshare in the US, 4% in Japan, and I forgot what % in Europe. But overall, worldwide, they predict 360 to have the biggest share.

The editor of Famitsu aslo said 360 would lead the world through 2011 at least.

2000 PS2 - 111.25 million
2001 Xbox - 24.5 to 24.6 million (unofficially estimated)
2001 GameCube - 21.2 million

nah I'm not making that bet. it's too unclear, you wont pay up, and I probably won't even be around OT by the time next gen rolls around.

I think Merrill Lynch and Famitsu editor's projections are more realistic. PS3 just costs way too much, and so far, 360 seems to have the better visuals (and games).

yeah but how many people actually bought the dam thing to play it? i'd say the majority bought that shit to sell and noone will buy it to play until 2 price drops

BTW, the article that is the basis of this thread, the one projecting 121 million PS3s sold, is based on a lame survey of brand loyalty among a small group interviewed.

A week ago an article came out saying that most people had no idea PS3 was $600. Most thought it would cost $300-400. Just goes to show that the masses don't have all the facts..so any sort of survey about brand loyalty is naturally flawed.
