PS3 Crew!!! v. reservations at walmart

I went to wal-mart at 11:30pm for the halo 2 release, there were about 60 people ahead of me. I did not get one obviously, city population:20-25,000.

I work for target also and we do not take preorders, and we are not even expecting to get any... thats our official stance that we tell everyone. unofficially we will probably get 1 or 2, and thats it (and those wont ever see the store shelf)

the county i work is the shadiest redneck county, with a per-capita income of 12k, population of 15k.

Last year, I thought i would be all set for the xbox360 release but people lined up at 3pm the day before xbox360 release.

WTF?!?!?

Let's do the math:

400,000 units divided by 50 states = 8000 PS3s per state.
Figure 3 major cities per state, = 2,666 per city area.
Figure that there are 50 stores per manufacturer per large metropolitan area, say Target, WalMart, BestBuy, CompUSA, CircuitCity, Electronic Boutiques / Gamestop / Babbages, Cosco, Toys-R-Us = 400 stores. (How many Malls in your city?) 2666/400 = ~6 per store.

Now, a lot of people may be thinking that 50 stores per manufacturer is a high number. Until you figure that Boston includes a lot of surrounding cities, that NYC is the 5 boroughs along with all the cities in Long Island and Yonkers & Westchester, that the surrounding area around Philadelphia probably includes 30 smaller cities, that Dallas / Fort Worth also includes Arlington, and that L.A. is a really big place. I figure the easiest place to find them would be Las Vegas.

So basically if you go to a store and see more than 7 people on line - you might just as well go back home.

Some states will get way more...some will get way less...Hawaii TRU, Wal Mart, Best Buy, Cosco, Comp USA and GS's only number 2 or 3 in the state each with some only one. Looking at low hundred or maybe 2 hundred for this state tops. A Best Buy might get a dozen or 50 depending on a number of things.

So, whos gonna have it for sale at the day of the release? I'm too late for preorders. I live in Michigan so I'm thinking there won't be that many people willing to wait in front of the store all night.

I can look up how many each Walmart in Canada is getting.

There store I work at is getting 28, and the others range between 12-49 each.

City population = 1.1 Million

I got my pre-order at FYE at the Galleria in Dallas in late August, was $50 plus tax. The guy told me not to worry about getting it on the drop date, those are reserved for the dipshits that have no lives and camp out in front of the above mentioned stores.

Basically I'll see mine around Christmas time. Or about $1k if I decide to sell the reciept on Ebay, .

I just called Wal-mart to see how many units they'd be getting on launch day. Guy said he didn't know but he said that they got 30 360's and I imagine it will be about the same for PS3's? More likely 15-20 range though I guess. He also said that at about 10pm they will pass out tickets labeled 1-x to the first x people in line and everyone else will know they aren't going to get one so they can go home. Anyway, just thought I'd update everyone on how they plan on doing it. He said that Wal-Mart is usually pretty cool about people standing in line. For the 360s they let people use the store's lawn chairs and everything...looks like that's where I'll be come noon Nov. 16.
