PS3 and Sony receiver?

I have a Sony Receiver that has a blue light that lights up when it is decoding sound. I have PS3 for DVD's and Games. When I watch standard DVD's and play games it lights up. Lately when I watch a Blu Ray it no longer lights up and plays in a different sound format (not surround) This just started recently. I checked on the sound settings and it is set to optical (which is what I am using) and the correct sound fields are checked. What could of caused this? Many Thanks
