Not sure about the foreign compatibility, i dont see why not? PS systems have always been pretty region free from my understanding.

UPDATE - after trying mgs 3. i can say that it does work. everything looks good now. no more jaggie issues. hooray, now i can play some of the ps2 games i have again.

I believe you can switch from NTSC to PAL at whim for things that do require region specificity.

I played FFXII in the ps3 now, and the textures looked a little better in the edges than when it was in my ps2

ive never tried any ps2 games on the ps3, but i have crash bandicoot on now and it looks great, better than the ps2 even it seems
