It could be a variety of things. Who knows how many teams are doing firmware updates as we speak? It wouldn't surprise if the March release is comprised of ten different teams doing various parts of cell architecture and other hardware issue.

Remember when people finished the firmware before releasing the box? I guess it's good that you can fix things and add features and patch games nowadays, but it just seems to have made everyone sloppier. All the next gen consoles are doing it

Gaming systems are getting more and more complicated so you're no longer able to fully satisfy your wishlist unless you're actually working on the system for several years in advance before release ... too much money to do so when there's ways to save a buck.
that actually raises the PS3 value way up in my book now. Finally 92% backwards compatability. Now we just need to be able to use the periferals and we're good to go
