Protection LED intermitantly comes on and cuts out amp?

Ok so i have a planet audio 200x2. all has been fine with the bass cranked up. worked perfect. then this morning out of nowhere it starting cutting out very frequently. i checked it this afternoon and it is doing the same thing. the protection light keeps coming on and cutting out my amp. why would this start doing this now out of nowhere. i obviously had it working fine for 2 months and now it is too much for the amp too handle? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated N I C K
 
You need to turn down the gain now as a 1st precaution...

What OHM load is your subs wired to?
Is your amp mounted on your box?
 
First thought is a possible short at some point in the speaker wires or at the speakers themselves (I've seen and had it happen where the wires that go from the back side of the speaker cone to the connection points make contact with each other or the speaker chassis). Also, it could be that the ground is loose. good luck!
