Proper Movie Idols

Gregory Peck

John Mills

Audrey Hepburn

Peter Fonda

Katharine Hepburn

Doris Day

Rock HuRABon

Joan Collins

Jean Simmons

Charlton Heston

Burt Lancaster

Marilyn Monroe

I agree with all those mentioned here but wondered if there were any modern day actors/actresses who could/will attain such iconic status in years to come?

I would also like to add Sidney Poitier. I agree that the stars will never have the same mystique but I think some could be called icons in the future, Morgan Freeman, Denzil Washington, Donald Sutherland, for example, I'm sure you could think of more

Those that are:
Marlon Brando
Steve McQueen
Audrey Hepburn
Henry Fonda
Charlton Heston
Katherine Hepburn
Marilyn Munroe
Clark Gable

Those I think will become as time passes:
Morgan Freeman
Timothy Robbins
Al Pacino
Robert Redford
Jack Nicholson
Johnny Depp
** if Dakota Fanning carries on to be as superb as she is now then she too will become an idol. I just hope she doesn't fall into the trap of doing romcoms and loosing half her body weight to fit the LaLa Land ideal :(

**isn't it odd how on the modern day list there are no women mentioned? Why do you think this is? and note its not just on my list

Bette Davis - my all time favourite
Joan Crawford
Barbara Stanwyk
William Holden
James Stewart
Olivia de Havilland
Laurence Olivier

You can't beat Marilyn Monroe for sheer, unadulterated Hollywood glamour - she represents the time period she was part of better than anyone else I think. She was a very good actress too, although most people only wanted her as the "Dumb Blonde" - she was reduced by her sexuality in the end. Cary Grant is another of my favourites - the true gentlemen and I think he was incredible in "To Catch a Thief", one of my favourite films.

There are many other ''true idols'' for me, like;
Marlon Brando
Barbara Stanwyck
James Dean
Audrey Hepburn
Katherine Hepburn
Lauren Bacall
James Stewert
Sydney Poitier
Dorothy Dandridge
Johnny Depp

I'm sorry to say that recent movie stars just don't cut it for me. Something has definatley been lost along the way since Hollywood's Studio System days. I am continually baffled as to how Tom Cruise has had such an outstanding career as I find him totally mundane in every which way. The only current stars I really enjoy are Cameron Diaz - she has a very unique quality that I really like - and I love that she did some very under-rated movies after "The Mask" such as "The Last Supper".) I also think Eva Longoria has a very good career ahead of her - she is easily the most talented at performing comedy of all the "Desperate Housewives" cast.
