This is hard to guage because I don't know what type of restaurant you work in. If it's a TGI Fridays, then you'd be overdressed. Also, if the dress is too short it's inappropriate no matter what. If this is the type of restaurant where some types of dresses would be approrpriate, then I think you're okay. Because you're adding the tights I think the dress will be "toned down".

I've worked in the restaurant biz for many years. Our hostess' are supposed to wear black and fashionable. Some over-do it. They may be good looking and nice to look at, but it is unprofessional when they wear short skirts, long tacky nails, and too much makeup. Slacks...not too much cleavage is good. A dress that isn't too short. Make sure your bra isn't revealed, and not too much makeup. Hope this helps without being to silly. Take care and GL.

I work at a restaurant. We're suposed to dress casual fancy. I ussually wear work pants and a shirt. But i got this dress that i really want to wear. It's red on top, black on bottom, i'd wear it with black tights and black leather boots. (i also have a similar dress with black on top blue on bottom) they are pretty short dresses but i'd be wearing tights., do you think this is apropriate? I don't know if it's too "sexy" or fancy... or is looking like that good for business at anytime?

thanks!
well i don't think i look skanky or trashy. The dress is really classy but it's just short. But with the tights the only skin you see is my arms pretty much.

It sounds like a relatively upscale place. The way you have described the dress and how you'll be wearing it, it sounds like it is very appropriate.

Without actually seeing the dress, it's hard to say if it would be considered TOO sexy or fancy, although sexy/fancy isn't necessarily a bad thing unless it's done with poor/trashy taste.

Best luck to you!
