Promotion For Astroboy

Dragonball Evolution did well in Japan too though. :/

I only saw a few ads too, but that's probably because I stopped watching CN ages ago. I kept making fun of it every time it came on though:

"... and he ended up creating..."
Me: "... a crappy remake."

This does look pretty bland, I do agree. The animation is sub-par at best and it just looks like another shallow remake. I'm really not interested in this at all.

Astroboy is loved in Japan, of course it'll do good there, also the movie from the reviews I've read is a really good movie.

Its not appealing to me because from what I've seen it doesn't seem what I personally expect from Astro Boy but that might work to the advantage of the American market since they see it as another CGi movie for kids and not this anime made into cg.

Imagi, Mirage and WB were happy, so it did meet their expectations.

There ya go. The only animated movies that have a chance of breaking out at the box office are ones that advertise in prime time on the "big three" networks. That's why Ponyo didn't even make it to $15 million despite glowing reviews, because most parents didn't even know it existed.

I've also seen the ads on Fox, CW, ABC, SyFy....So really, parents know this film exists, ABC alone shows that.

And Ponyo did surprisingly well, even surpassing Spirited Away's record. $15 million is absolutely nothing to sneeze at for a foreign film (an ANIMATED foreign film) with a relatively-limited release, it was a hit in Disney's eyes.

It was big because it wasn't released at the same time as one of the Saw films. I mean the movie's still not my cup of tea but it had been making a lot of cash lately.

Disney finds Ponyo making $15 million a success? That actually sounds kinda cool.

If I'm correct, Ponyo only had promotion through Disney Channel, Disney XD, Cartoon Network...and that's it, right?
