Programming remote to control Amplifier

I cannot seem to program expressvu remote to control my amplifier I have called tech support and they couldn't help me. I have tried all of the codes in the back of the expressvu guide. The way I was trying to program goes as follows. I push and hold AUX until all 4 buttons flash I enter 2 along with the 3 digit code provided in the expressvu manual I then push pound and then the record button and nothing has happened. What am I doing wrong?

Which amp do you have? Some amps have discrete codes for on and off, therefore testing using the on/off key sometimes yields no results. Try the volume control...

Many remotes also have a method to "scan" all the codes without entering them all in one at a time. Not sure if the BEV has this feature.

If you have still other equipment, you may wish to consider purchasing a Harmony Remote. I see they are selling some of them for around $70-80 now.

57, do the low end model harmony remote controls allow you to adjust picture ratio? This is the one question i need answered before i purchase one of these. I also own a toshiba dvd recorder which i would like to know if it can be used......by harmony.

OK, have you tried doing a automatic code search? Is the Sony controller through IR or RF? There may be another amp code that will work. The owners manual will tell you how to do the search.

I have the same problem. I exhausted every last code and could not find one to control my Sony amp.

All harmony remotes are capable of any function that any IR remote does.

Due to the varying key layouts, I'm not sure which key would be used for a particular function.

I am having a similar issue. I cant get my remote to control the volume and mute for my amp. I can get it to control the TV but I have all sound going through the amp. (Kenwood) I am running a 3100. Had a 2700 hooked up the same way and it worked fine. The way I got it to work with the 2700 was I used the echostar code. Worked fine...tried that with the 3100 and no luck. Would love to get it to work to eliminate 2 remotes....

Finally! I have now linked a Cogeco Motorola 6412 remote (Atlas DVR 5-Device) with a Yamaha RX-V1400. All other devices were 'easy'. I had the right codes all along but couldn't tell as my amp must have the 'discrete code' for on/off. Testing the manually entered codes with volume worked - it was driving me nuts not being able to get this to work! They should tell you this in the manual - but that would make sense wouldn't it.

Thanks 57! I knew I would find the answer here (DHC) somewhere.

I guess I don't really understand what discrete coding for on/off means, but I assume based on that there is no way I can program the Atlas to turn the amp off/on?

FYI

I've only been able to get my bev remotes to control the Volume and mute on any of the 3 Yamaha amps I've had in the past 5 years

Although i just bought a 5900 and notice that the number buttons also control the Inputs

It means that the remote sends a different code for "ON", than for "OFF".

Since the non-Yamaha remote only sends one code for the "power" button, it can only turn the unit on, or off, but not both
