(Programers) How are people able to hack games and cheat?

They just change the code..
Im not quite sure how to get to the code.. but yeah
Games are just a bunch of code :P ex: <run> <script source=true> <click=select> thats not a real code but it gives you an idea.. and they can go in and change it.. ex: <run> <script source=false> <click=back>
