You can clear NVRAM and format the disk by following these instructions. You can also return it to 'factory defaults' from the menu. I think that's it.

Hi
I hope this question is OK to post here. I am a Bell subscriber currently using Bell activated 3100 and Dish 4500C receivers. Both work great. Now have upgraded the TV to 42" Panasonic HDTV with HDMI inputs so am looking at HD channels. It seems the Dish network has a lot more HD receivers and they are available on "that other site" for reasonable prices. Bell CSR was no help on this. Can I activate a newer Dish HD or HD PVR (for example the 921, 942, 622) on my Bell service?? What about the older Dish 501 PVR?
Any information is most welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Marg

Bell Tv doesn't want to take chances of being accused further on, of activating a stolen machine

I belive same rule applies to cell phone

The problem is, CSR have a HT (handle time) to respect. Transfer process of a recever is not complicated, but long

The CSR have to ask the number of the receiver open the seller's account, look if there is a note, deactivate the receiver if it's not done already, remove the receiver from the account, leaving a note on the sellers account, open the buyer's account add the receiver and smartcard number, add an a/oto get the feed on the unit, then add a note on the buyer's account

Once that's dne he has to ask questions to his clients to get to know his needs, make a sales proposition, try to convice him if he refuses, then conclude the call

All that in 6 minutes or around that!!!

Original orders are not placed by CSR...they are placed by direct sales, not my departement.

The 25% I used was based upon my personnal calculation, not official numbers.

They can look at the thread if they want what would it proove? They can go over the numrous calls that we receive in a day and easily find out many related to installation...

Order for move all you Bell services into one call most of the time doesn't get done... Why? Nobody knows, it's Bell Canada who places those order...

If you received installation to do that had the mention cancelled, maybe you should blame National Install...aren't they the ones dispatching the tasks? It's certainly not the CSR's job...

And why so many orders, cancelled by the cutomers shows as completed when you look then up in the system?

Orders with wrong equipement don't come from my departement. Direct sales, Bell Canada, Bell stores and even the client could have been the one doing the order.

A question for all the technicians...when you can not make an order you are given, or the adress as you say doesn't exist do you at least try to reach the customer?

I'm not bitching at anybody here...i'm just trying to explain that as many issues you techs may have with CSR, as many issues we have CSR's with you techs.

You are trying to say we make your work complicated, when you also make our work complicated.

Don't cut up your cards, it will make the receivers pretty much useless to a legit subber, see that it will cost $69 to replace them each.

Location ID cannot show physical location. It is just the receiver ID and the time obtained from the sat signal.

The only verification that can be done is *IF* EV captures the caller ID info on the incoming call. Note Caller ID is not available everywhere as older telco switches still do not support it (although this is rare).

From the sounds of it though, the technology employed by EV is so antiquated that it is unlikely the system is capable of capturing and passing on the information, but you never know.

If expressvu reactivates it after the owner called to have it disactivated then expressvu are the ones that are stupid are they not? And because the receiver must be plugged in to a phone line to upload movies, if the receiver did get reactivated by accident by expressvu the buyer would have to plug the receiver into a phone jack (why would they if they getting free TV  ) in order for the PPV to get uploaded, if it never got plugged it the old owner would never be charged, and a receiver dialing in from another phone number should raise a flag with expressvu.

So if expressvu (acidentally  )reactived a receiver that a owner had disactivated and informed bell of the transfer to a new buyer, then the old buyer is not responsible for any of the charges...period.

Do you think it would work? I figured it wasn't worth while trying to package up the dish because of the size and the cost it would take to ship it somewhere.

Good questions! The equipment was provided initially under contract. Back in Oct/06 when I canceled my contract, I wrote BEV "... and instructions regarding the disposition of the equipment." The only response I received regarded the return of the HD box. They abandoned the dish & the 4100 receiver. As far as I'm concerned, I own it now. Just out of curiosity, couldn't a new owner of the receiver just plug & play?
Good estimate on your part. I just looked up past sales of 4100s on eBay.ca. The range is CDN$58 to $99 with shipping included. Maybe it is worthwhile advertising it for sale on the buy & sell thread.

Thanks for your input.

I had a similar, reverse situation. I bought a receiver on ebay, went to activate it and the EV CSR said they would make an attempt to contact the original owner for me as I had no idea who they were. Risky I suppose since the unit could be stolen and you could be charged with receiving stolen property but I suppose that applies to anything bought online (or lots of other places).

LOL - maybe the 5100 I bought was one of yours :)

That little Jack The Ironworker story is great, but like I said, Expressvu will not activate receiver's listed under someone else's name. The owner must call to transfer ownership.

Bought a "used" 9242 (actually brand new & still in sealed box) privately a few months ago and it has "issues". In particular, it sporadically powers off and on again on a fairly regular basis. Also emits loud audio static "cracks" from time to time (often just before it powers off and on) and experiences the occasional audio drop.

Unit was purchased by the original owner in Oct/08 (he stuffed his original receipt in the box) and purchased by me in Dec/08 and authorized on Bell shortly thereafter. Does the unit still have warranty, even though I'm not the original owner? Assuming it does, anyone know how Bell is handling replacement of no-longer-current receivers - if they'll only replace it with a 9241, I'll live with the issue (when it powers off, it still records so I just hit the rewind button and pick up where the show left off).

if the CSR's , techs, direct sales and dealers can't communicate properly what hope does the customer have?

Doubt it - would have to contact BEV to get it authorized on their account and that's when it would likely become known whether you or BEV owned it. If you do want to sell it, you really can't avoid contacting BEV again to ensure the receiver is no longer associated with an account so a purchaser won't have any problems getting it authorized on their BEV account. I know when I've bought used receivers I actually call BEV in the middle of the transaction to ensure there won't be any issues with getting it set up on my account.

Also, if you currently have three receivers active and sold three others in the past and the buyers never activated them, you still have six receivers on your account according to Bell and cannot add any more.

If your account is still active, the receiver might still beactive too...if the person who bought it just plug it in he would get YOUR programming. Also if he orders PPV they will get billed under YOUR account

If your account is deactivated you still have to call ExpressVu to advise them that you gave away the receiver or sold them, oterwise the client won't be able to activate it. At the time they will also let you know if it was a rntal unit that needed to be returned. If that was the case, you would have received an invoice, a few weeks after the account was closed, charging you 84$ for non return of equipement

What are the current promotions for someone wanting to add HD? (any for someone who needs a dish upgrade)

-gmd

If that is the case, tell BEV the receiver stopped working and you threw it in the garbage and whoever listed it as sold on the account must have been mistaken.

Yes there is a promotion for HD upgrade, just go on bell's website and click on offers for currrent subscribers.
