So I took advantage of the 100 dollars off a 5900 promotion that was on during the month of July, and I have to tell you, it was one of the better experiences I've had with BEV in a looong time.
CSR I dealt with over the phone was extremely helpful and actually made small talk that was worth contributing to! Also, received my Bill for August, and low and behold the credit has been applied to it........:D

I don't know what to think, but maybe swearing lent a helping hand Hugh???

i have sold receivers and never had to transfer ownership. I am very confident one of the receivers was activated.

All I told bell was I want to de-activate it and it has been sold.

Yes, you can sell them. Sometimes they get more than retail from an auction site because some people buy them to use for less than legal purposes, and they don't want to provide any info to Bell.

Captain RedBeard usually doesnt give out his name when buying his receivers online
Cant the buyer tell you his name?
Can't we just give his personal info? CC# or SIN #?
Most people are reluctant to give out personal info ESPECIALLY on Kijiji, craigslist, etc..... For good reason

A few months ago, I bought a used older model receiver for $25 off eBay and couldn't get it to work. Talked to Bell several times and finally gave up. Returned it to the owner (local) and got my money back no questions asked.

Then my mother-in-law gave me her reallly old one when she upgraded to HD. I called Bell to activate it (and the wouldn't until she deactivated it from her account and told them she was selling it) and he told me right off the SmartCard number was out of date and I needed a new one at a cost of $100-- the same price as a new 4100 receiver. So I bought the new receiver instead. Figured why bother with the older model if I could get a new one for the same price.

It then dawned on me that the older model receiver I bought on eBay must also have had an outdated Smartcard, but even though Bell asked for the number on the card and in the setup several times, none of them picked up on it. I guess it all depends on who you get on the phone when you call. That's what makes it so frustrating.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the mechanics and issues surrounding the buying and selling of ExpressVu receivers. Please stick to the subject at hand as future off-topic posts will be deleted and infractions may be issued.

You will have to ship him the receiver...or meethim to give it to him

I understand that you shoudn't give personnal info on internet site, but once you are purchasing and meeting with the buyer I don't see what the problem is

This step is mostly for the buyer...if you just say I sold it with no name when he calls to activate cetain agents wil refuse to as we don't know for sure if he his the person whm you sold it to.

I am moving in with my girlfriend who has basic cable. I am thinking of cancelling my subscription with Bell as I don't have a contract right now, but have one of the current programming packages. Then have my girlfriend sign up as a new customer.

My question is, what is the process to transfer the receivers from my account to hers?

Thanks,
Chris

I got an "official" answer from BEV tonight but I wanted to know if there is some loophole I can possibly use. A friend of a friend was given a used 9200 as payment for some work he had done for random person X, Now I try to activate and BEV says the original owner has not signed off so they say I'm pooched unless I get the original owner to call in first or option B is to wait until the original owners account has been closed for 1 year. Neither are really an option. I can always give it back and buy new which isn't a huge issue really but saving a couple hundred bucks is always nice. Anyone have a suggestion?

That might happen but the correct procedure would be for the Bell rep to verify that it has been sold. They won't contact the original owner of the IRD but they inform the buyer that they must contact the original buyer and have them call Expressvu and verify the transfer. The Bell Rep then notes the account and the new owner's name is entered into the notes. When the buyer calls back he can have the IRD activated on his account.

First of, the topic here is buying and selling receiver, not who has the best call centers...

Second of all if I were you I would check myself...Bell is looking at that site and you mentionned that you work for Reztel...the kind of buisness you are doing could make your vendor loose their contract. I think I had you on the phone last summer (or some installor that had the same Star Choice mentality you do) and we got into an argument. I advised my superiors that the installer was trying to convince the client right ther, when I was on line to get Star Choice. They were supposed to submit an installer complain

Third point...we can not know for sure if you bought or were given the receiver until we have a note from the client stating he gave you the receiver. If Star Choice doesn't have privacy rule and is willing to give information about account to other client whithout a protocole, it's their problem. Bell Express Vu is comitted to keep you privacy and that why we have the PIN protocole.

Well, that's an other problem typical of BEV. For 4 months (up to May), There was NOBODY installing Bell within 5 hrs of here. I am an installer for a sub-contractor but I REFUSE to work directly for Bell. I like to get paid within the same fiscal year. So the poor installer had to drive for 5-6 hrs to get here. Of course, he only wanted to do so once every 4-6 weeks and do them all at once. Result ? You guessed it. ETA of 3,4,5 or 6 weeks. Why no installer? Guessed it again. Nobody wants to install for Bell. Lower payments, claw back, not paid in time, poor field support, etc... So if you install for BEV and *C, unfortunately for the Bell customer, *C goes first. With the price of gas and coax cable going up and nobody gives us a raise, we have to go where the money is. Rien de personnel mais c'est mon opinion en tant qu'installateur pour les deux ;)

Yea, I am well aware of the Smartcard issue, but what can you do? I have been deactivating existing units and activating the old units to cover off the cards. Last time around on the card swap, if you were one rev back there was no problem, BUT who knows what Bell TV will do THIS time!!!!!

If you have more than one receiver on the account you'll be cancelling yes it can be done, but most agents won't do it... The agent would have to close the open work order for the cancellation, remove the a/o (code to have the feed on the second receiver), then re-do the work order. In most call centers they advise us not to do it, but you might run into a neewbie who will do it for you. If you have only one receiver then it's impossible to transfer the receiver since you account is still active for that period and to have an active account we need a receiver on the account. system won't let an active service with no receivers...

You have to call in to say you gave (or sold) the receiver for us to be able to activate it, otherwise the client will never be able to activate it. We will then put a note on your account and when the client calls to activate it we will then remove it from your account and also put a note that we did so.

I would have thought that contacting the person who's account the receiver is tied to would be standard.

It makes the most sense.

I just bought 2 x 6100's from a yard sale, one is actually still active with programming, the other is on an account.

The working one will stay as it is until the programming stops as it has more Themes than I have, the other was taken off the persons account and I have transfered it to a Family member.

So as you are well aware, not everyone inside Express Vu follows all the rules, Thank God.

It is not really a good promo... simply a refund on the "Rental kit" and free programming for six months. You can (negotiate) get the same on any purchase or rental agreement without threatening to leave..

"+ Available with All-in-One HD Kit purchase, 1-yr HD rental equipment agreement and subscription to the HDTV Programming Pack. Early termination fees apply. Customer must purchase and register the All-in-One HD Kit and activate the system within 60 days of registration. Kit credit then applies on the account, before taxes. HDTV Programming Credit is applied monthly on the account, before taxes; allow 4 weeks. May not be available to customers
who have subscribed to the HDTV Programming Pack in the last 6 months. Installation includes up to 2 tuners; not available everywhere. Other conditions apply."

Pretty sure the older 6000 HD receiver had the smartcard but the 6100 doesn't. By the way, assuming Bell migrates to mpeg4, then this receiver will become obsolete fairly rapidly since it is only mpeg2 compliant. In other words, if you decide to purchase one I wouldn't spend too much....

Just my $0.02....
