Thank You dosborne, my hands are tied somewhat and I felt unable to say that this was impossible, so I just hoped for a knowledgeable poster and there you are.

Thanks.

Not true, I currently have more than 6 receiver's registered to me, but only 6 active receiving programming. You can have more than 6 receivers registered, but only allowed to have 6 active. Two Bell CSR 's I have talked to have confirmed this. There is no limit of the number receivers that canbe registered to your name.

I'm looking at buying a used 6100 but noticed some of the sellers provide a smart card and some don't. Does the 6100 need one or not? I called Bell and the tech indicated I don't but he seemed unsure too. If the receiver needs a smart card can Bell send me one or is there some long drawn out process?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hmmm I had my receiver for sale. Someone has responded and wants to purchase it. Apparently he has called BEV to ask bout reactivating the receiver before my 30 days is up. And he claims they told him they would activate the receiver before my de-activating date?

Can this be done?

Follow up: I didn't realize but this can be done after talking to BEV. I just need to let BEV know that I sold the receiver. Of course I still have to pay for the rest of the cancelation period which is at 2 weeks now.

300$???The 6100 was worth 299$ when they were still in sales...

I know that you certainly can get more than the 70$ Bell is offering taught

I believe most of us do speak with our wallets,..

Pay our bills on time,
continue to subscribe...
Wouldn't that justify some "perks" for upgrading/adding on? :o

Not sure if I just got some Bell tech that didn't really care, but he removed 2 of my receivers from my account that I had sold;) ...a 3rd, which is actually broken is still listed.

Why bother? Why risk causing problems formatting the disk (not that there should be any but you never know) and clearing everything.

Remove the password lock (this is really the only thing you should do - although EV can do this but it is a pain having to call), erase recorded material (or not) and be done with it. Let the new person erase timers and any remaining content. Maybe they missed those shows :)

Actually, EV still owns the receiver and dish equipment. The dish equipment is not a big issue. If you told them to take it back and they didn't, anyone can use it. The 4100 receiver is an entirely different issue. Even though they didn't want to pay to ship it back, they may still want rental fees if it is activated. They probably figure it's cheaper to let the 4100 find a new owner and then hit them with the bad news. Unless EV signs the 4100 over to you in writing, don't assume anything about its ownership. They may even decide to bill you for it in future if they change their mind. I repeat, get the ownership issue straightened out in writing before EV scr3ws you.

I've sold lots of BEV receivers. I am now finally rid of BEV. There is no problem. If you have deactivated this receiver with BEV, you are good to go.

I had a 3100, a 5800 and a 5900 in the house. Thinking of going HD. Question, if I get a HD receiver, am I allowed to sell the 3100 or the 5800. There are quite a few for sale (at decent prices) on certain famous auction sites. Not sure if Bev allows that anymore.

Verified with this guy I know that was in the SAT departement for 5 years (I guess Nimiq 1 that makes him knowledgeable enought)...he says that the location ID wold be different than it should be if the receiver is hooked to a diferrent telephone line than it should be

Might be able to purchase a 9200 for a decent price locally. Is there a way that Bell can tell me the unit's history via the ID #? I think I can get the # from seller, then get it checked by Bell to make sure there are no issues (rental etc.)
I did call last week and the Csr told me they could not use the ID # only the previous owners info to track the receiver. Anyone have more info?

Thanks for any help

If I sell a ExpressVu receiver and transfer the owership. Does the new owner get the rest of the warranty?

At leat you learned a $30 lesson, not a $300 lesson :)

Definitely, buying a non-suscribable unit is a big problem.
- it was a rental
- it was a dishnetwork unit
- it has money owing on the account (although this often can be bypassed since it really isn't your problem)
- stolen unit

Your options with the rental are:
- return it and get your money back, helping out the person who sold it
- return it and get your money back plus "shipping and handling" for your time and effort as it will likely still be to their advantage
- send it back to Bell, helping the person who sold it
- throw it out. Taking a loss for you and likely screwing over the person who sold it.

Unfortunately, your choices are limited and the unit isn't of any real / legitimate use to you.

Other than returning the unit, contacting the seller isn't going to do anything for you as Bell will not allow them to sell (therefore not allow you to buy) a rental unit, nor will they allow you to start renting that unit. You can of course rent a new unit from them......but I doubt that's what you want to do.
