hi. i really want to buy a 2.7 crd 2004 jeep grand cherokee with 53,000 miles on it. it looks in great condition on the pictures, but obviously there only pictures. i cant just nip down and check it out because its in hull which is about 130 miles away from my house. so i need to do all the checks at the same time. i need to know the most common problems with a jeep grand cherokee 04 and what to check when im there. and i know about the transmission problems

Go to the library & look at Consumer Reports Car Guide to used cars. What you'll see there is that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most unreliable vehicles you can buy. They have loads of problems, and the tranny is just the beginning. If you need a rugged 4x4 look at the Niassan Pathfinder or Toyota Four runner. Both are better all around. Good luck.

Checks you should do before you leave the house: Get the VIN and get a Carfax report to check for major damage, stolen recovery, etc. Ask for receipts for regular maintenance. When you test drive it, make sure it tracks correctly, it make need an alignment. Make sure it has a good spare tire and jack. Check to see if all the recalls are done. Good Luck!
