Problems with my remote start on a pontiac G6 2008?

I just got a used 2008 pontiac G6 it seems to have every option on it. The dealer never said anything about remote start. I was playing with the radio and it said the option was on, then I noticed the key pad on my keys had the option to. I tried it by pressing lock twice then hitting the start button nothing happens except the lights flash. Is there anyway to tell I have it for sure. If so any hints on getting it to work? Thanks
