Hi,
I used to be a very competitive runner, running county competitions for the 800m about 10 years ago. Due to other commitments I gave up running and did very limited excercise.
But now, I am very determined again to get back in shape and have this wild idea that I might get back into good enough shape to just do club competitions, but, there's a very big but!
I am having a nightmare with my calves! Every time I start to put any real effort into training, they feel like they are going to pull, and strain very badly every time, lots of pain, even to the point where at the end of a session, if I go up some steps, pushing up onto each step makes me feel like my calf muscles are about to snap.
Now I know a fair few stretches and excercises for my calves but nothing seems to be working to stop it happening and I'm getting to the point where I don't think I'll get get into shape again.
Can anyone help? Does anyone know of any tips they can give me that may stop this from happening, whether it be stretches, hot and cold presses etc, anything that may stop them from pulling everytime I put any real effort into pushing off the balls of my feet???
It is so frustrating and painful.
