Has anyone ever had these symptons?

As an example during normal driving on the highway, the Tachometer will suddenly jumps for no reason from 3000 RPM's to 8000 RPM's (as if the car was in neutral and you rev'd up the engine). This will most of the time immediately go back to normal albeit there is a loud noise from the rear of car and a squeal of the tires as the car appears to find a gear at high RPM's. If it does not go back to normal I will immediately take my foot off the Accelerator (the RPM's drop) and reapply the gas it will most of the time go back to normal. I sometimes need to do this a couple of three times before it will finally correct itself. This problem happens very sporadically, during city or highway driving, approximately once or twice a month. An accident waiting to happen...

First check the tranny fluid if it is full then the tranny is going bad and make sure it is running when you check the fluid.
