problems with honda accord 2001 ?

my accord (2001/75k/petrol) has recently developed some problems. The engine cuts out, is difficult to start and can also misfire. These happen intermittently with the car being fine in between. The check engine light is not on. Does anyone know what may be wrong?
 
I'd start with a basic tune-up, ie: your ignition wires, plugs, cap and rotor, air filter and fuel filter.
